▷ Being a feminist is so conflicting…

Maybe someone can help me out with this one.

Over the course of the past year or so, I’ve noticed that as women, we get favourable attention and perks. These events have occurred this year, which I would attribute to happening mainly because I’m a girl:

  • Free taxi ride
  • Free doughnut from employee at the Beer Store
  • Cutting the line for entrance into a club
  • Free entrance to a bar on a couple of occasions

PS, the second to last one occurred yesterday actually. We were walking past the line up for this Latino Club, that had a line-up that was half a block long, and the bouncer saw my two girlfriends and I walking by and said to come cut the line and come in.

Here lies my internal-conflict; men do nice things for my friends and I probably because they find us good looking or because we’re female.

But, as a feminist, should I accept these gestures and gifts?

I mean, many times I decline because that’s where lies the true testament of equality, non? Thoughts? Comments?
